Course Overview
This comprehensive programme provides students with fully up-to-date knowledge regarding the latest financial technologies and their deployment in solving real and financial economy problems against a backdrop of increasingly digitised real economies, and the entry of new participants – including Big Tech firms as well as fintechs – into financial services markets.
Building from first principles, the course reviews the key issues relating to existing financial services, market participants, credit provision processes, underlying payments, and other systems before covering key financial technologies and their potential role in improving the quality of financial services, products, and delivery as well as reducing the “cost-to-serve” customers – particularly lower net worth individuals and Micro-, Small- and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSME).
The programme also covers the technologies behind blockchain and its potential applications or “use cases” across financial systems. The disruptive nature of combinations of fintech and blockchain, including their potential to transcend pure financial applications and become fully integrated within real economy transactions, is covered via a number of case studies.
