Course Overview

 

As well as solid technical competence, the most successful people in the financial industry have great communication skills that they can apply intuitively in context.

 

We want to build on these unconscious skills and add conscious choices as to how we communicate in order to achieve a specific outcome.

 

We would emphasise some consistent themes throughout the programme:

 

  • Trust is the foundation of great professional relationships, and we focus on effective ways to establish rapport and build trust, stressing the importance of colleague & client partnerships.
  • Questioning and listening skills to move the conversation forward and explore the colleague’s or client’s real interests and objections.
  • Non-verbal communication.
  • Communicating to sell an idea and get action.
  • Understanding how to make subtle adaptations to behaviour to improve effectiveness of interactions with colleagues & clients.

 

Learning Objectives

 

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Adjust the communication style according to the listener.
  • Understand the power of body language and tone of voice in delivering a message.
  • Use active listening to clearly understand what is being transmitted.
  • Use questioning techniques to direct conversations, persuade and build rapport.
  • Ensure their message is received and understood with clarity and purpose.
  • Distinguish between the various methods of business communication.
  • Recognise the barriers to communication.
  • Deal with those moments of stressful communication.
  • Apply different situationally specific strategies to communicate with colleagues & clients.
