Fundamentals of Climate Change

Course Overview

The focus of this course is a comprehensive and holistic coverage of climate change and the associated risks and opportunities that this phenomenon presents. Participants will be given a detailed summary and insight of the current climate change dictionary and narrative and why this is important in our understanding of climate change.

Both the science and economics of climate change will be covered in depth to help participants differentiate between fact and fiction in the climate change world. The course will conclude with an overview of how different societies are implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies in order to become more climate resilient.

• Understand the dictionary and terminology of climate change
• Frame and contextualise the narrative around climate change risks and opportunities
• Understand and appreciate the science of climate change and embrace both the physics and chemistry behind the science
• Consider and challenge how mainstream economics is being upended by climate change and appreciate why alternative economic models are needed
• Compare and contrast various climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies with a view to understanding how societies can become more climate resilient
